Pulse

UX Research · 2024

Patient data that nurses can read in a hallway.

Pulse is a dashboard used by hospital nurses to follow patient vital signs. Designed during my time at Studio 27, it replaced a desktop tool that was hard to use on tablets.

Challenge

Nurses check data while walking between rooms, often with gloves on and very little time.

Approach

We shadowed nurses for two weeks, then designed a tablet view with three levels of detail and colour used only for changes that need action.

Result

The new view was rolled out across two hospitals, and nurses reported that they checked the dashboard more often because it was faster to read.
